ABOUT SERENITY HOLLOW

 The site is a former small sandstone quarry, the local church was built using the stone. So, I decided to call it Churchstone.

But when I started building the road in the middle of the summer, I noticed 2 things.

1 Because of being in the quarry, or as its seen, a hollow in the ground, the temperature was considerably hotter than the surrounding area.

2 The quietness in the countryside except for any bird noice, made the atmosphere sereen.

So after some thought, decided to change the name to Serenity Hollow.

This led for me to concider the following.

After going on holiday to Florida Keys, Miami and the Pasific coast, like a lot of people I thought " I would love to live here". meaning the style of houses.

 I thought why not build the houses on the styles you see there.

Just imagine, It would be like living in Florida, but working in the UK .

This development will be the likes of witch you don't see in this country, its building for the future, not the past.

BUT THAT WAS NOT ENOUGH

 The brief I set myself when designing the houses  had to also linclude the following.

 A 21st century house for the 21st century lifestyle.

It had to be a large house with small house running costs.

I wanted  houses designed with entertainment in mind, be it for the familly or friends. ie, multiuse.

Cheap to run .

Easy to maintain ( no wood)

Nice and airy, plenty of sunlight.

Easy to maintain garden.

A real familly house with children in mind.

Towel radiators in bathrooms

Easy accesable for disabled.

Accomodation if older person wants to stay.

Loads of electrical sockets.

And finally private gardens.

EXTRA INFORMATION

At the entrance to the road is a small parcel of land that used to have a terrace house on it. I had a word with the local planners as to the feasability of building a property on it , but, the design had to be diferent to what is around.  THEY SAID NO, after some negociations they did agree IF the design was  world class . This I was very happy to oblige so I looked at various architects to pick a company that would come up with the goods. After a lot of looking and interviewing prospective companies I found what I believe is the perfect match for me, They have designed a property based on a house in Amsterdam, which, won the worlds best small house catagory awards in 2006, the likes of which are unbeatable.

I think its a work of art, designed to make a statement. I wanted a house to be talked about and admired and saying, " this way to the future", this way to SERENITY HOLLOW.
